Similar to a TV commercial producer who needs to face the challenge of conveying a message within a very short time period, a web banner artist has to create attractive banners that are extremely small in file size. Reducing the number of colors used in a banner and the number of frames in an animated GIF file are the two essential tricks to reducing file size, but applying them often results in flat-looking and unattractive banners.

During a promotion campaign, banners of different dimensions with the same design are created to get posted on various websites; and different websites have their own stringent requirements of banner dimensions and file size, creating extra headaches for designers.

Flash-based web banners are more forgiving and exciting than GIF-based banners, but the time and effort spent on creating them increases greatly.

Generally, the three messages that gambling website banners say are "Big Jackpot Prizes", "Join Us" and "Free Games". "Nice game graphics", "friendly people", "great fun" are often ignored in a sea of graphics within a busy webpage.
